Cedar Waxwings: Princes in Fine Feather Garments
Last night, I watched a flock of cedar waxwings flitting from tree to tree, and for a moment, I thought they might be bohemians. The soft dusk light gave them a gray, rusty hue, tricking my eyes until I crept closer.
Even knowing they were “just” cedar waxwings, I couldn’t help but feel giddy since these birds are so handsome. Their smooth, satin-like feathers catch the fading light like polished silk, their crests tilt just so, and their neat black masks make them look like feathered royalty. Honestly, they’re little princes in fine garments, gliding from branch to branch as if they know they’re best dressed.
