I once stood knee-deep in a cold Michigan river with a student who had never knowingly touched a macroinvertebrate before. She held a data logger in one hand and a kick net in the other, then looked up and asked, “Bruh, is this real science?”
I smiled and said, “It absolutely is.”
In that moment, something clicked. She leaned in, started measuring flow, collecting specimens, and making real connections. That’s the kind of learning I believe in—authentic, experiential, and rooted in nature.
When people truly own their learning—when it’s grounded in real places and experiences—it stays with them. It builds lifelong curiosity, a sense of stewardship, and a personal connection to the environment.
I’m an educator, consultant, and connector who believes the best lessons often start right outside your door (or a few miles down the trail). I help people see learning differently: as something rooted in place, grounded in sustainability, and powered by purpose.
With more than two decades in K–12 education, I’ve led student changemakers, coached educators, designed community-based curriculum, and built networks that turn good ideas into meaningful action. I think in field notes, sketches, and brainstorms scribbled in the margins, always looking for new ways to connect people, ideas, and the environments that shape them.
